On November 8, the Hands Off Venezuela campaign welcomed into its ranks
the Hungarian-Venezuelan Solidarity Association (HVSA), who after a
period of close collaboration and discussions had decided to join HOV.
This is a welcome addition to our campaign and we look forward to
stepping up the solidarity work with these comrades.

The part played by the Bolsheviks in the history of the Russian
revolution of 1917 proves the importance of the role of leadership. The
history of the Spanish revolution proves the same thing, but in a
negative sense. In September Alan Woods spoke to the Socialist Appeal
Northern Weekend
School in Britain, which had as its general theme 'The Class, the Party and the
Leadership', on those events which took place in Spain 70 years ago.

Over seventy people
gathered on Wednesday, May 21, at London's
Bolivar Hall for the opening of the film season Venezuela: a revolution in film, which is organised
by Hands off Venezuela in association
with the Venezuelan embassy in the UK. (Also in Spanish).

The Spanish students' union, Sindicato de Estudiantes, held its conference between the 21st and 23rd of November. They made this video as a summary of their conference.

Belgian oil worker union activists recently visited Venezuela, witnessing the situation in the Venezuelan trade union movement directly, at PDVSA but also in the wider community, getting a taste of both the advances of the revolution and the problems.

On Tuesday, December 16, a delegation of fifteen workers from the CMR
(Revolutionary Marxist Current) and FRETECO, visited the SIDOR steel
factory in Guayana, state of Bol#237;var, Venezuela. The visit was a spectacular success and marks yet another milestone in the
growing influence of the CMR in the Venezuelan workers movement.

It is testament to how much Latin America has changed politically over the past several years that Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez not only criticizes U.S. military policy in the region but now actively seeks to form a new defense force designed to counteract the colossus of the north. Recently, Chávez invited Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega to join him on his weekly TV show, Aló, Presidente!
