Democratic Process Not So Easy For Minor Party Candidate Moore---Several Miles from New Hampshire Border Where Major Party Candidates Campaign Effortlessly

Brattleboro, VT, Monday, January 7, 2008, — Socialist Party USA Presidential Nominee Brian Moore was threatened with arrest Sunday afternoon by Brattleboro (Vermont) Police officers for petitioning in a supermarket parking lot to qualify on the presidential primary ballot of the Liberty Union Party of Vermont. The Socialist Party presidential ticket of Brian Moore and Stewart Alexander gained ballot access in its first state on Monday, 21 January, when campaign volunteers in Vermont submitted more than 1,100 signatures to get Moore in the Liberty Union Party's presidential primary. Moore will be the only candidate competing for the Liberty Union Party's nomination. Since the primary election is binding, this guarantees that he and Alexander will appear as the Liberty Union ticket in the November general election.

When many people hear the word "socialist", words like "communist" and "red scare" come to mind. History books teach us about the Cold War and remind us of a time were the worst thing you could be called was a communist or a socialist. Socialist Party's Brian Moore wants to change all of that.

Submits Motion for Preliminary Injunction to Force State to Refrain from Blocking Any Petitioners for Brian Moore, or for any other candidate for President.

In an open letter to their supporters on 26 January, the Los Angeles branch of the Freedom Socialist Party endorsed both Brian Moore and Stewart Alexander for the Peace and Freedom presidential primary on 5 Feburary, and called on people to register and vote Peace and Freedom in order to keep "a socialist alternative at the polls".

The Socialist Party of Massachusetts (SPMA) held its annual State Convention in Worcester on Saturday. Seven members showed up at the Stone Soup Community Center, where they discussed the agenda for 2008.


The group encircled a pamphlet-covered coffee table to discuss the anti-war movement, International Women's Day, universal healthcare, this year's presidential election and how to expand the party's modest base (as of 2006, there were 176 registered Socialist voters in Massachusetts).

As the Iraq War runs its bloody course, Iran has become a central focus in the 2008 presidential campaign. While not satisfied with Barack Obama's conditional plan for a much delayed disengagement from Iraq; Socialist Party Vice Presidential nominee Stewart A. Alexander says that he and his Presidential running mate Brian Moore are "greatly concerned" that comments being made by Republican presidential contender John McCain, regarding Iran "are reckless and irresponsible and will further escalate tensions in the Middle East and the international community."

Socialist Vice Presidential Candidate Stewart A. Alexander attacked the economic programs of Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama and Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain; Alexander dismissed the economic proposals of both candidates as "campaign baiting to win votes." Alexander says the U.S. economy needs much more than what either candidate has presented, "the U.S. economy needs a total makeover, and a little makeup will not work."
